Measles outbreak – February / March 2019
There have been several cases of measles in Canterbury recently and significant outbreaks overseas including in the Philippines and some European countries
For countries that are affected, please check the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, USA) website for travel updates – https://www.cdc.gov/measles/travelers.html
We recommend patients are prompt with childhood vaccinations, which are free for those under 18 years of age. Children who have had their 15 month MMR immunisation, can have their second shot early, so long as it is one month after to the first. Children can come for their 15 month immunisations after their first birthday.
Those born after 1969 are eligible for a course of 2 MMR vaccines.
Those born prior to this time, are considered to be immune.
If you suspect you or your child have measles, please phone us for advice. Do not present at the medical centre.
